06 May 2010 - Aches and pains springing up all over the place

Although my achilles is finally feeling much better, I'm now experiencing pain and gouty aches in a number of other joints.  My left ankle is especially affected but in a different place than where the pain occurred over the last week or so.  My left toe is also getting worse as the day wears on and my left knee is feeling pretty gouty.  None of the pain is horrible, but it's bad enough that I am gimping around.  I've had to be very careful with my walking today.  One slight misstep while at the post office earlier led to a not-so-nice expletive slipping from my lips - right in front of two little kids.  I felt pretty bad about that as did my toe and ankle.  I feel like a penguin when I walk, hobbling back and forth on two stiff ankles.  I must look pretty humorous to those that see me.

Thankfully, the weekend is almost here and it looks like our plans to visit friends has fallen through.  This will let me completely rest this weekend and stay off of my feet as much as possible.  Not that we would have been doing much while at their place, but the getting from here to there and other added short walks would not be beneficial right now.

In case you missed it, there has been a great conversation going on in these comments regarding the amount of liquids that should be taken in each day while on Allopurinol.  I was under the impression that more was better but it turns out I was wrong.  I've been drinking way too much water and other fluids and it could be contributing to some of the attacks I've been experiencing.  I thought I'd never say this, but I'm going to have to work on NOT drinking as much throughout the day.  I've always drank a lot of water and it's become a habit for me.  I think the first thing to go will have to be my intake of Pepsi Max, my beloved, non-sugary soft drink that keeps my eyes open at work each day.  I'll miss it dearly, but it's another sacrifice I'm going to have to make.  Goodbye, Pepsi.............. : (
