26 May 2010 - Down and Worn Out in Germany

It took me a while to get to my gout updates today.  I just didn't feel like it.  I'm worn out and tired from battling this latest attack over the past few days.  But, the knee is feeling slightly better and the prednisone is working.  I have a bit more mobility but I have to be very careful when I walk.  With the slightly added mobility comes a higher chance of my knee going out on me.  See, even thought the pain has somewhat decreased, the swelling is still hanging around.  With that swelling comes the knee instability and with that instability comes a larger chance of falling in to my slanted ceiling or nearly tearing down the shower doors in the bathroom.  Both of these have happened in the past 24 hours with some other incidents thrown in for fun.

No, I didn't make it to work today.  I couldn't.  I made every attempt to get ready for work this morning, but the inability to climb in to the shower basin along with almost tearing down the glass doors around the shower while trying to climb in to said basin convinced me that I probably shouldn't be walking much, let alone driving a vehicle.  So, that does it for every single bit of time off I could have taken.  I'm down to zero hours now.  But, I did cancel our extended weekend plans so that does buy me another day if I absolutely need it.  I'm real tired after all these years of using what limited vacation time I have for sick leave.  I could really use a real vacation.  I think I deserve it.

After taking my dose of prednisone this morning, I started feeling and seeing results about an hour later.  I should be okay to go in to work tomorrow.  I'll just have to make sure that I hole up in my office for the day and keep the bathroom trips down to a minimum.  Nothing like sitting uncomfortably in front of a computer for nine straight hours!

  1. Nate,

I am glad your pain level is coming down. Hope it will be gone soon. BTW, can ski poles or crutches help you move around? Clutches helped me a lot before. Get well soon.

  2. Hi Anon,

Pain is up a bit today but not a lot worse. Good news is the swelling in my knee has significantly decreased. It makes it a bit easier to get around. I have used ski poles to get around. With the proliferation of Nordic Walking here in Germany, people don't look at me quite as oddly now as they used to when I do that :)

    Thank you,

    Nate
